Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions page. If you don't find your question answered here, please send us your question by using our contact form. We will send you a direct answer and include it in our next update.

A basic description of our methodology can be found in our book "Self-Help for Stress and Pain plus Learning Blocks." When you purchase the book we will also include a "Balancing Roadmap" which will guide you through effective use of the Self-Help exercises and give you a framework for organizing your own Self-Help Exercise Program.

Further information on this book and other products, including an order form, can be found on our website on "books, classes and lectures".

Question:
I am interested in your classes and lectures. Where can I take a class?

Answer:
At the present time we are only doing 'Self-Help for Stress and Pain' workshops by sponsorship. The best way to learn how to use our techniques with greatest effectiveness is to sponsor a workshop in your area.

Our workshops are hands-on so people can start to learn how to reduce or eliminate stress and pain in their life immediately. The best format for a starting workshop is a two day class. We can give CEU credits for nurses.

The class objective would be for everybody to experience a substantial reduction in whatever pain they are experiencing and to learn how they can help themselves friends, and family after we are gone.

The sponsor takes the workshop for free plus a commission. They help us find a room for doing the workshop, plus finding a place for the workshop leaders to stay.

We would assist the sponsor by listing the workshop on our web site, including your telephone number and e-mail address if you wish, so people can contact you for the workshop. We can also send e-mail announcements to people in your area who have asked us about classes.

We are also looking for someone to do our marketing for us. This involves setting up lectures, workshops and private sessions. Please contact us for more details.

We have been traveling to Europe for the past six years doing our "Self-Help for Stress and Pain plus Learning Blocks" workshops with great success. Our Self-Help book has been translated in five languages

Question:
I have had a lot of low back pain in the last three years. I have bad si joints, and most of my muscles are always tight. Muscles from my neck to my feet. I've been seeing a company doctor through my work and nothing seems to really help. Recently I was injected in my lower back with prolo-therapy. My lower back is still not right, and since the prolo-therapy I've noticed more pain in my hips and legs.

Answer:
Proper muscular support of our pelvic girdle is the key to resolving upper and lower back pain as well as muscular and structural pain throughout our body. It is our observation that these problems cannot be satisfactorily resolved until this muscular support is provided. The three key muscles that must be strengthened are the psoas, gluteus medias, and tensor fascia lata. In our methodology this is accomplished through the use of neuro lymphatic reflexes, as taught in Touch for Health. Once this is accomplished, we found that the key to keeping the pelvic girdle and low back in balance is in energy balancing reactive and frozen muscle combinations throughout the body. These procedures along with other energy and muscle balancing techniques (as described in our "Self-Help for Stress and Pain plus Learning Blocks" book) usually produce rapid reduction in stress and pain levels as well as postural and range of motion improvements. (Sponsoring a class is the best way to learn these techniques)

Elizabeth had low back problems for years and also has a herniated disc. She found out that after doing the Self-Help balancing exercises the low back pain was gone. In our philosophy we say, "Muscles pull bones; bones don't pull muscles." By getting the muscles working together and relaxed takes the pressure off the skeletal structure. As long as Elizabeth keeps her muscles in balance through appropriate use of the balancing exercises, she has no problem with her back.

We have helped many people with back problems.

Question:
What can I do about Tendonitis in my shoulders and elbows?

Answer:
We find that medical conditions diagnosed as "tendonitis" reflect irritation of the tendons which in our experience usually results from frozen (hypertensive) and reactive muscles. These muscle imbalances are often the result of repetitive movements (such as computer usage, playing musical instruments, etc.). Relief can often be obtained by bringing the muscles back into balance. See our website page on Repetitive Muscle Stress for more information.

For best results you need to focus on the entire body muscle structure in addition to the immediate area experiencing the tendonitis. We would suggest balancing neck, shoulders, arms, back, and hips, and then concentrating on the area affected with additional exercises. The techniques may also have to be done in bed because the body is in a different position than standing or sitting, etc.

Question:
I was told that I have a frozen shoulder. What can I do about it?

Answer:
Unfortunately the person who diagnosed your shoulder as "frozen" may mean something different than we do when we call a shoulder muscle "frozen".

In our work a muscle is called "frozen" when during a standard muscle test for that muscle, the muscle does not release (i.e., test "weak") when a signal is sent from the brain to release. (Another term for this condition would be "hypertonic".) This condition can be easily corrected by using the Frozen Muscle Basic Balance Self-Help techniques.

A "limited range of motion" condition (such as an inability to raise your arm over your head) may also be diagnosed as "frozen". See next question.

Question:
I have very limited range of motion in my arms. I find it difficult even to comb my hair. I have a lot of pain in my shoulders and upper back.

Answer:
A muscle that will not move beyond a certain point we would call "limited range of motion". This condition can be improved and even fully corrected most of the time with our Self-Help exercises, provided there is no structural damage. Muscles have to work together in groups and pairs. When you use one muscle, other muscles have to relax, as in lifting the arm. When the muscles will not relax properly, you may experience a "limitedrange of motion." We have helped many people with this kind of problem.

Question:
What can I do for wrist pain? I was diagnosed with a possible Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Answer:
In alleviating sore wrists, sore hands and other recurrent tendonitis and irritated neurology, symptoms often attributed to Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), we call this condition "Repetitive Muscle Stress" (RMS). We find that the basic cause of CTS and other forms of RSI are reactive and frozen muscle imbalances. CTS occurs when the muscles in the forearm tighten and the upper arm and shoulder muscles weaken in a reactive response to moving your fingers. Because the muscles in the forearm become too tight, they pull on the wrist bones forming the carpal tunnel. Eventually the carpal tunnel collapses, irritating the nerves and tendons and causing pain. The solution is to relax the muscles in the forearm to take the pressure off the carpal tunnel by using our Self-Help exercises to balance the reactive and frozen muscles.

Question:
What are Reactive Muscles?

Answer:
Reactive muscles are muscles that weaken when another muscle, the reactor, is activated. The weakened muscles can lead to muscle pain and postural alteration. The overly strong reactor muscles can cause tendon and joint pain. Reactive muscle combinations may be created by sudden injury or by repetitive muscle movements (as found in any repetitive motion like playing musical instruments, using computer keyboards, food service etc.). Read our web page on Reactive muscles.

These problems can usually be corrected very quickly by using our Self-Help exercises. These unique exercises, developed by us, are described in our books and taught in our classes and lectures. If you would like to sponsor a class in your area so you can see how the techniques work, let us know and we will send you details. At the beginning you will use the techniques many times, and as the multiple muscle imbalances get corrected, your body will relax and require less balancing.

Question:
What can I do about Dyslexia? My daughter has a great difficulty in school.

Answer:
Elizabeth's story
talks about her dyslexia and how she overcame it. People who are dyslexic are not dumb; as a rule they are very smart, having to work extra hard to overcome their handicap. As a child in school Elizabeth was called "MR" for mentally retarded. She could not play games on the playground or understand what she read. Reading made her very sick to the stomach. How many times have we heard a child say that, while they are reading, they don't feel good, "My stomach hurts!" I know the feeling because this is the problem I had. We have helped many kids as well as adults with learning problems. It never ceases to amaze us how fast the techniques can work and how rapidly the former dyslexic can advance in school. Have you read the antidotal report on Learning Blocks on the web-site?

We find that dyslexic symptoms are caused primarily by communication blocks, both from place to place within the brain and from the brain to the muscles and the outside world. Removing these blocks opens up the world for the dyslexic and allows them to shine. See the article on our website on the Triune Brain concept and Brain-Muscle Coordination.

The "Children's Self-Help, Improving Performance and Building Self-Esteem" book is the best book to purchase. You just follow the procedures in the book from beginning to the end. Some people can follow the book, and some people need to see it done. Once you have purchased the book or taken a class, we are available for assistance by phone or e-mail.

We were at a massage convention and a lady came to me and said "What can I do for my twelve year old son who has been in special ED since the beginning?" I went through the "Children's Self-Help" book, demonstrating the techniques on her. Then she went home with the book. Six weeks later she wrote to me and said, "My son was reevaluated and (had) progressed 5 years in reading and in math. He is now going into regular 7th grade. He is losing weight. He is participating in sports. I guess," she said, "this is what you mean by "improving performance and building self-esteem." She noted also that this was the first time in his school experience that he was not assigned to a "special ed" class. This is typical of the results that can be achieved by regular use of our methods.

Question:
I am a 24-year-old classical pianist that hasn't played (seriously) in 6 years because of pain. Anything you can offer would be helpful; haven't been able to find anything at all.

Answer:
Musicians frequently suffer from what we call Repetitive Muscle Stress (RMS). For example, when playing the piano two things are happening. You are using the pedals with your feet and using your hands to play the keyboard. There may be a reactivity between the foot and the hands. We call this a reactive muscle combination. When you use the foot pedal your hands and forearms weaken and become very tired and eventually painful.

The Loving Life Basic Balancing Methods can provide extensive relief to common musician problems. See the article on our website on Musician Stress.

Question:
What can I do about my constant headaches?

Answer:
First we suggest that people see a medical doctor to make sure there is nothing pathologically wrong.

We have found that most headaches (and a great part of our other aches and pains) are caused by muscle groups not working together properly. Get the muscles communicating and relaxed and most painful headaches and related problems will go away including low back pain. Have you tried the sample technique "neck release" on our web-site?

People ask us what we can do about migraines. The same techniques will work.

I (Elizabeth) will never forget the first person she worked with a migraine headache. We had a booth at the National Health Convention in Pasadena. We were giving demonstrations and sharing our techniques. A lady came up to me and asked what we can do about migraines. My first reaction was to say, "I don't know." Then I thought about it. Our techniques work sometimes in surprising ways. So I offered to help.

She left, and the next day she came back to our booth leading by the hand a lady wearing dark glasses and holding her head. "This lady has had a severe migraine for the last three days," she said. "Nothing has helped. Can you help her?"

I preceded to do the headache release exercise, the neck release, and reactive and frozen muscles. This took about five minutes. In that instant she took off her dark glasses and walked off never saying a word. Taking her dark glasses off was a clue that the headache was gone. We have helped many people since then with headaches of all kinds.
